Joshua Martin Saunders (May 30, 1981)

Joshua's art employs his perspective on and distortion of a range of subjects: American advertisements mashed together with boobs, children's literature and folklore woven together with jokes and pornography. His assembly of paper, constructed from the deconstruction of pre-existing work, illustrates a true reflection of his understanding of the ironies of American culture.

Fueling his art is a meticulous collection of paper images, mostly American advertisements and children's literature dating back to the 1800's. In addition, Joshua's work relies on his reaction to the obvious hypocrisy of these paper images and the roles they project, something greatly overlooked by those who see them most often. By juxtaposing these subjects and roles with his own daily interests and passions, Joshua exposes subtle perversions, humor, and ironies in our culture, society, and history.
